My reflection on this lesson... A lesson talk about Juxtaposition again which conducted by Ahmad Radzi Mohd Bedu. It's a fun lesson because it's not just merely talk for few hours. we got some tasks to do in the class
we are given a A3 paper and 2 rows of words with specific number, after that choose 3 numbers
from 01 to 99..
example: 25, 50, 99
then, combine the words.
make 3 sentences with the the 3 pair of words.
Interesting part:
Express the 3 sentences in images.(DRAW it out)
Images above shown the task i did in class..
The Drawing came from the words i combine..
The task show us how to think creatively, how to combine two thinks become one, how to make sense of something, how to apply juxtaposition in your design. Juxtaposition can be defined as placing two subjects or words at a same place, their contrast and similarity are shown through comparison.
.........
The 2nd task in class
Create a passage/ writing that describe the concept of 'Love' (refer to the image below)
When i be with you,
you taste as spicy as the chili.
When far apart from you,
I miss you as miss the taste of the Chili.
Yes, it is a poem. I made it during the class. This is our second task in the class which is create passage or writing using the concept of 'LOVE' with the picture above (chili) Well, i can say it is a fun lesson ever in MLC class. Everybody try their best create a creative writing or poem. To understand the Juxtaposition, we put the chili and love together and createsomething that make sense. What a great exercise it is.
Of course, just 1 poem is not enough for the lesson. i have created 3 more writings for this weekly entry.
Create a passage/ writing that describe the concept of 'Life" (refer to the image below)
live in city, hunt for money,
life can be so cruel,
live in city, look for money,
life can be just a cup of tea.
Create a passage/ writing that describe the concept of 'pain' (refer to the image below)
love,
just like ice cream and hot tea.
With a cup hot tea pour into my mouth,
quickly i put ice cream into it.
it's pain!
my teeth hurt just like my heart do.
Create a passage/ writing that describe the concept of 'women' (refer to the image below)
Women are the mortar and pestle in the society
They make from the hard element
which can last long
They have the ability to mix everything
which create the unification.
Here is it, my poem with the juxtaposition theory. It is a theory which really useful in the design industries.
........
I'm glad I'm a man, you better believe. I don't live off of yogurt, diet coke, or cottage cheese I don't bitch to my girlfriends about the size of my breasts. I can get where I want to - north, south, east or west.....
We will be giving a party for our new students. We won't, however, be serving drinks.
The student knew about the test on Friday, but still he did not study.
It refers to something which is contrast, two object or words which oppose one another. it is more easy to understand in this way.(showing pictures or examples..
A good exmple of Juxtaposition because the painting show a strong contrast of race, level, fate and so on.
another example of juxtaposition. A tank and a toy bike.
old style building vs the factory, development and the culture contrast.
My Reflection...
Understand the juxtaposition will help us in the design or art industries. besides that, in a story or movie also apply the theory, juxtaposition. It's an arrangement of two opposing ideas, characters, objects and so forth to make the story more interesting. because of the juxtaposition, it grabs audiences attention. The contrast can speak a lot.
''I like the construction of sentences and the juxtaposition of words-not just how they sound or what they mean, but even what they look like.'' - Don DeLillo
A tool which used to crush, mix solid substances had appear in the creative lesson. We were asked to draw a logical mind map on MORTAR and PESTLE, but it's not a normal mind map which just give the information about the mortar and pestle. we are required to imagine and write down some new functions of it instead of the original function. the purpose of doing this is to let us get out of the stereotype of it. Human normally judge things based on experience from the past, stereotypes.
''If you never see this before, what will you think of it?''
Here is it, my mind map based on the mortar and pestle. It's crazy, insane and nonsense but those idea get out of the stereotype successfully.
....
My Reflection on this exercise. Sometimes, it's not wrong to think non-logical stuff. To ask a questions which people hard to answer it clearly. For example, 'Do we have the egg first or have the hen first?' we get the idea when we try to find the answer.
it's a good exercise that should bring to the secondary or primary school in order to let them out of the stereotype and be creative.
....
A Creative Product!
Water Tricycle! = Bicycle + water filter Isn't it a useful creation, why must the water filter should be still? why must the bicycle just use for the travelling purpose?... what's the problem the society face? problems lead us to the answer, make us become the creative group of human. from: http://badbanana.typepad.com/weblog/creative_ideas/page/3/
The creative thinking, the way artist think.What is the way artists or inventors think to get a fantastic, Craziest, best idea which is also acceptable. Convergent and Divergent thinking explained the artists and inventors thinking. Convergent thinking is a term coined by Joy Paul Guilford as the opposite of divergent thinking.
Convergent is a thinking which takes all the information and knowledge and turn it into an answers or a solution. Opposite of it, divergent thinking normally involves brainstorming and looking for alternatives way to solve problems.
Picture above shown the Convergent thinking process which takes what we have right now and add your own uniqueness or personal style to it to get the 1 right answer.
Some people are more in convergent thinking than the divergent or either one of it. I think it doesn't matter you are in which thinking. Both are requires in my life, my creative journey. It's just 2 theory to me anyway, as long i'm'OUTSIDE the BOx', we usually called that creative.
....
So, i have the idea what's the creative thinking really is.. what about brainstorming? mind mad..
Here are some examples of mindmap from the Internet.
Tony Buzan Introduced the mind map which is a good way of generating the idea; it's a way of brainstorming. It not requires any essay format to noted ur ideas or information, just few lines to link all the ideas and information. Besides words, you can put drawing or picture to make the ideas clearly presented.
WHY Mind map? Mind map have plenty of advantages and functions. A creative mind map able to create the interest of others and yourself because it's easy to read and not requires high level of language. Besides, it save a lot of times because it is easy to read to read if compare to a essay or paragraph. people always remember the colour and pictures more than the words.
Here is my own mindmap, about myself.
.... Stereotype
The term 'stereotype' come from the Greek word. It was invented by Firmin Didot in the world of printing. It is something not based on the objective truth but rather subjective and sometimes unverifiable content-matter. Stereotypes are more on opinion, like the T.V programs contains many stereotype which shaped the society mind.
... Something to Share..
Video about the basics on how to create a creative mind map of yourself.
I think it's very creative commercial. i share this because It can be related to the convergent thinking which converts all the advantages people need to create a solution, although it contain many stereotype of car's brand in the video but that's what the society think. it's smart.
"Being creative is seeing the samething as everybody else but thinking of somethingdifferent"-sherkejia,D.1990 (fr0m the lecturer slide)
The lesson 3 in class,is about the history of famous creative people, what is Creativity, novelty, innovation and invention.
There are too many arguments definitions for the word CREATIVITY, my view, creativity is an ability to create, think different from others although based on a same things. That's what in my view of creativity.Now, let's see what others say about it.
Howard Gardner, psychologist at Harvard University sayd, being creative means doing something which is first of all unusual.
Creativity is the process of generating new things which has it value,mean it is useful for people. A creation must be original and has it own values.
An example given in class, the Printing Press invented by the Johannes Gutenberg. The creation really give a huge impact to the society. The communities and society accepted and supported his idea make the creation more valuable. In short, The creation always based on the need of the people.
Innovation by definition to bring in new ideas or make changes(Oxford Dictionary).
So, What aboutnovelty? i really don't understand what is novelty when lecturer mentioned the word in class. Based on the lesson, novelty is the quality of being new.
There are 2 types of novelty which is...
Subjective novelty: A perception of something as being new by a person or a group of persons.
Objective novelty: something new for all and its development for ages.
My reflection on this lesson... Sometimes, people say being creative isn't easy. i think only lazy persons will say that.Now, i know what is creativity, novelty, innovation are.Those who take existing knowledge to create and invent new, we usually called them inverters.
Jackson Pollock, an well-know artist and some of his paintings who introduced in this lesson.
He's is a invent the a unique style of drawing or painting and influenced others. A good example for ART student.
~~~~~~~
Funny? it's a joke, but it do have its values. This is what i want to share this week. It is something can think about.Don't you feel sometimes it is hard to "clean it" for the older people.
Sometimes inventions come from jokes. take your jokes seriously and
BE CREATIVE and INOVATIVE!
My Class Exercise, Creating image of public Figure.
Born: 5 January, 1941 (age 69) Place of Birth: Tokyo, Japan Occupation: Film Director, Character Designer, Screenwriter
Hayao Miyazaki, the reason that we choose him is because of his creativity in telling stories in his film and produces a lot of creative films to us. We always get a lot of inspiration from his film or animation. That’s why we admire him so much and regard him as the person we want to learn from.
First and foremost, this Japanese guy becomes the well-known person in this world because of his film and story which motivated and influenced people. Miyazaki's films often incorporate recurrent themes, likes humanity’s relationship to nature and technology, and the difficulty of maintaining a pacifist ethic. He always has something to tell inside his art piece. Miyazaki was voted from Times Magazine to become one of the most influential Asian of the past 60 years in 2006. Besides that, in 2005, he was named one of the Time 100 Most Influential People.
Miyazaki’s animations implicitly criticize the adverse impact of humans on nature. For example, Princess Mononoke or Mononoke- Hime(1997) which is a story about the struggling between the nature, animal spirit and the humans who exploit the forest for industry. Miyazaki takes a leading role when creating his films; he is the writer, and also director. His creations are able to influenced people; change your original view of the world. A number of Western authors have influenced Miyazaki's work, including Ursula K. Le Guin, Levis Carroll, and Diana Wynne Jones. Miyazaki confided to Le Guin that Earthsea had been a great influence on all his works, and that he kept her books at his bedside. Miyazaki confided to Le Guin that Earthsea had been a great influence on all his works, and that he kept her books at his bedside. Miyazaki always takes society’s problem to be the theme of his works. This action represents the innovative of him.
As a conclusion, he will be our choices when choosing the most creative person for us. All his works and the rewards he get is already proved that.
